Hello Everyone,
     My name is Donna Rowan de Martinez.  I am originally from the United States specifically the state of Alabama.  Do you know where Alabama is?  It is on the Gulf of Mexico, beside Georgia (Atlanta Olympics) and very close to Florida (Disney World). I have lived in Mexico for over 20 years so I am almost ½ Mexican.  Maybe you want to know why it is important to learn English.  Well, let me tell you a personal story.
     I came to Mexico to learn a little Spanish because I was studying for my doctorate degree and I needed to learn to read in a foreign language.  Shortly after I arrived, I met a very handsome man and we dated for a year so I decided to stay another year and guess what we got married.  I never planned to spend most of my life in Mexico but I am very happy.  That was over 20 years ago. Imagine!
    Perhaps you want to know why I am qualified to be your teacher.  Well, first I have been teaching for 33 years.  (So I have already heard all excuses.)  I received my BA ( in English the licenciatura is called Bachelor’s Degree) from Auburn University and  my Master’s and Educational Specialist Degrees from the University of Alabama.  I also completed most of my course work for my doctorate but as you know, I got married and never finished.  In addition, you should know that I really love to teach and it is a joy to see students learn and progress.
     As you probably know, I am married to a very handsome Mexican and we have a handsome, intelligent and probably the most fantastic son in the entire world.  He is 18 years old and yes, he is bilingual.  At present, he is studying high school.
     My hobbies are reading, visiting with friends, surfing on the internet, going to Julia Roberts’s movies, painting and traveling whenever money allows me too.  I am not really a sports fan and unfortunately, I rarely participate in athletic activities. Later we will talk about things I like and don’t like in the classroom.
    Oh yes, I am 54 years old and my birthday is October 24th.  I am not sensitive about my age because I obviously look 35.  Those of you who want to do well in my class should agree with me.  The only forbidden question that I will not answer is how much do I weigh.
     I am looking forward to helping you become a better English speaker this semester.  We are beginning a partnership.  In a partnership, both people have responsibilities and if we both do what we are supposed to do, we will be successful.  Communication is extremely important.  This webpage is an attempt to give my students extra practice and an additional way of establishing communication between teacher and student.  Let’s have a good semester?!
